Back to school cake / “Einschulungstorte”

As a German, the first day of school has always been a very special occasion for me. Growing up with the tradition of the “Schultüte (“school cone”), I wanted to bring this tradition to my own daughters and make their first day of school extra special – with not only a Schultüte, but also a cake to celebrate their big day!

Yesterday, my youngest daughter started school, and I made her the cake she had been dreaming of: lots of candy, a pink and purple colour scheme, and, of course, a “Schulkind” (“school child”) cake topper.

We had a little celebration as a family before heading to school together, which made the morning even more special. It was the perfect way to say goodbye to the long summer holidays we have had, and celebrate the beginning of this exciting new chapter.

If you live in Stockholm and would like to surprise a little Schulkind with a special cake for their first day of school, I would be happy to create something just for them! Get in touch at hello@sophiemariecakes.com.

All the best,
Lea from Sophie Marie Cakes
